The Management Team

After the Chairman and MD, a further six senior managers lead the various departments within the company, which is much greater than the sum of it’s individual parts. The company has always pursued a policy of personal development and promotion from within. Consequently three members of this team started in the very early years and understand every level of the business from personal experience. Others have brought in very valuable experience from other sectors of industry. This mix of expertise is what keeps us ahead in the food service sector.

Vegetarian Express was founded in April 1987 by David Jonas. In the beginning it comprised an estate car and some insulated containers (this was before HACCP became industry standard), two chest freezers in the back garden, a telephone and a desk in the bedroom of his girlfriend’s terraced house in Ilford. Oh, and not forgetting one of the first ever Motorola mobile phones, the size and weight of a brick, like the one used by Michael Douglas in the movie Wall Street.

The purpose and aim of the business is to promote and cater for the continually growing trend for healthy eating, with a particular focus on healthy eating in the work place. We are also specialists in ethnic ingredients with an excellent reputation for our extensive range of high quality authentic products.
